Mark's Speaking Schedule
Church of The Common Table, Vienna, VA
May 10We’re excited that featured speaker and friend of Common Table Mark Scandrette will be extending his trip to join us at 10:15 on Sunday morning at Jammin’ Java. He’s been to Common Table before and is a big fan, so we thought we’d invite him to bring his international reputation to our group. And oh, it looks like it’ll be fascinating. Mark will be extending some of his thinking from his most recent book FREE: Spending Your Time and Money on What Matters Most and talking about the soul issues related to money: fear, worry, greed, and existential longing, and the ways in which these forces shape our decision-making around money. He’ll also connect these ideas to the invitation of the gospel and the larger framework of global inequality and ecology (…and don’t worry, there will be plenty of time for feedback and discussion…). We hope you can join us for this exciting event. Please feel free to invite others who might be interested as well.

Faithonomics: connecting belief & practice for the common good. Washington, DC
May 9Mark will be presenting on themes from FREE at this one day event, sponsored by Common Change. Faithonomics seeks to bring together like-minded individuals to explore the intersection of faith and money. Connecting our ideals and our practice is easier said than done. Who we are, what we value, how we live, and even what we believe, are often rooted in our relationship to money and material possessions. In a culture so deeply defined by money, how do we live well with our Creator and the people around us? Investigate with others in the DC Area how to further create an economy based on abundance (rather than scarcity) within our lives, families, and communities. Sessions and workshops will include:
- Understanding and creating your money biography
- How to align your time and money to reflect what matters most to you
- Explore the power and imagination of collaborative giving
- Planning for the future: socially conscious investment, community banking and retirement
- The economy of the marginalized: mass incarceration and immigration
- Rachel Anderson, Director of Faith-Based Outreach at the Center for Responsible Lending
